OpenElec / KODI - Unable to add Win7 Share Folder

So, I just installed OpenElec 2 days ago, I have 0 experience with Linux stuff, and played a bit with Ubuntu but for what I needed, OpenElec worked great.

On my PC (not my HTPC) I have Win7x64 installed. I do all my re-encodes, edits, renaming etc from there, then I dump them to my HTPC (3TB drive for TV, 3TB drive for movies). So far I was able to share the drives on the HTPC and mapped them as network drives on my PC and I've copied files over, but haven't tested anything like deleting/renaming yet.

On the HTPC however, I am trying to add a shared folder from my Win7 system, which when the HTPC was running Win7, worked just fine. I can go into add source, browse, windows network (smb) and I can find my Win7 PC no problem, but when I try to add it asks for a username/password and as best as I can remember, my Win7 PC has no passwords. If I leave the password field blank, it won't add it. On my PC, when I go to my user settings, there is an option to create a password, but no option to change/delete existing.

Any suggestions?

I've asked on the OpenElec and Kodi forums... so far lots of views, 0 responses.

Windows network security works on user name / password pairs, and your Windows boxes sure have user name (probably, your name) and password (which could be blank).

The easiest solution for your problem: Create a user, assign a password, and grant that user read access to your media folders. Use that user for access from Kodi/XBMC boxes.

Ya, I don't see a password on my name/account, and in homegroup/sharing options I have password protected sharing off.

My concern for adding a user with a password is simply that (in the past) that seemed to envoke a login screen for Windows, which I don't want. No one touches the PC so I don't want any login windows.

Given that under Win7 on the HTPC it worked, I'd rather figure out why it's not working in OpenElec vs altering my PC. My main PC shouldn't need to change anything, should it?

Looking at it, I have 2 users setup as the share, Thomas (full access) and Everyone (read-only). In KODI... I have tried Thomas, and Everyone, and it always bounces back looking for a password, I think... no error message or anything, but Password is in red so assume the issue.

Yup... added a new user "HTPC" with the password "HTPC" to make it simple, and was able to add it without a problem. I think, in a Linux setup anyways, it HAS to have a user with a password.

That said, now when I start Windows on my main computer, instead of booting direct to the desktop, I get that stupid login screen showing up with THOMAS and HTPC as users.

So, next question is... how do I get rid of that screen? if I can't because of the added user, then the added user is gone and I'm back to my initial issue again.
