Hello,

I have a usb 3.0 connector that will not attach to my motherboard because my motherboard doesn't have a spot for the usb 3.0 connector to go in. I already plugged in a usb 1 cable thing and I don't know if that will do that job or not.

Also, the usb 3.0 cable came with the case. I have a feeling it just connects the CASE'S usbs to the motherboard. BUT there are already usb ports ON my motherboard, so cant I just use those?

Thanks so much!

Solution

Yes, adapter is only necessary if you want to use front ports on your case. Back ports on mobo will work either way.
Another alternative would be a pcie usb 3.0 card with an internal usb3 header on it. It would be closer to usb3 speeds (and would add a couple ports on the back), but you would probably need a usb3 header extension cable to go with it so it's a more expensive option than the 2.0 to 3.0 adapter above

Wait so I CAN use the back usb ports on the motherboard without an adapter? Just reassuring this because there are a few conflicting answers to that question.
