hello everyone so i built my first pc and everything been going good untill yesterday when i was playing mass effect and all of a sudden my screen started flashing green randomly. so i quit the game and then realize my computer cpu and gpu were off the roof. cpu was 105f and gpu was 138f. its most likely cause of the game. but after i closed the game it didnt go down. figured id open the case and put it to sleep mode and just check it tomorrow (meaning today 4/18). once i turned my computer on they were even higher! nothings running and for some reason my cpu is at 90f and my gpu was at 140f and rising. its been about 30 min and i completely shut down my computer and turned it back on but now my cpu is at 73f and my gpu is at 120f. usually it was way lower then that. not to sure what it could be. should i be worried that i might fry it? i have nothing over clocked. everything is default.

References u make to temperatures should be in Celsius.

If, the temps u listed were in Celsius they would be too high.

Go ahead and convert the temps to Celsius.

I usually Play the Latest games only; but i just finished playing beginning-to-end Half-Life Blue Shift. (5 hours.) And temps were:

CPU:
Min 36.0 C (96.8 F)
Max 51.0C (123.8F)

GPU:
Min 26.0 C (78.8 F) Note: this includes 8 hours in Sleep Mode in a cold room.
Max 46.0C (114.8F) Note: the old Game didn't touch the GPU and ran from the CPU.

CPU
Intel Core i7-6850K
Motherboard
X99-Ultra Gaming-CF
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

Max 60.0C (140.0F)

GPU 1 of 2:

ambient temps make an enormous difference. if temps u recall are from just a month or two ago, then room temps may be approximately 10% - 25% higher. and that effects hardware temps a lot.

have u tried http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ ?

If u want to try ^^, be sure to uninstall any and all other Temperature Monitoring tools that u might presently have already installed.

And also note, that even if u don't overclock anything, overclocking apps installed for sake of monitoring temps; should be avoided when it comes to multiple ones being installed. In other words, u should only install one OC tool at a time. Having one OC tool installed, and one Temperature Only Tool installed is OK.

Example: i have,
1. the MSI Afterburner v4.3.0 (using Classic Templet found in settings looks best) url: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html , and,
2. Open Hardware Monitor v0.8.0 Beta url: http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ , installed.

I've been running these ^^ two and only these two Tools for Graphic card monitoring/ utilities sake for 6+ years with great success.

But always use/ make backups before making any changes to ur system. Acronis True Image 2017... example of features and Free trial DL at bottem url: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/true-image-features/#_backup-features is pretty stable and can be purchased online for as little as $19 for a single PC. And it is a great option. With a learning curve that is well worth going through. ATI does everything back-up-wise. Last but not least, everything u could ever want to know about GTX1070s: http://www.overclock.net/t/1601546/official-nvidia-gtx-1070-owners-club ("[Official] NVIDIA GTX 1070 Owner's Club" thread on the OverClock dot net site.)
