So i have the ASRock X370 Gaming K4 with a Ryzen 1700 inside and 8GB of Corsair RAM running at 2133Mhz. Dr Debug shows the error code 40 but the computer still posts and loads windows fine. I restarted it and now it is showing 24, but it is still fine. I'm fairly sure that this isn't normal behaviour.

According to the ASRock website, 01 through 54 are all memory related errors. I tried to use my ram kit at 2400 (thats what it is on the box) but it wouldnt boot and took a few CMOS clearings before it would pass POST again. All 8GB (2 sticks of 4GB) registers so it is working, but maybe not correctly?

I havent updated the bios, i just built the pc today and i am a bit hesitant to update it. If anyone could shed some light on the situation that would be appreciated, thanks.

A bunch of the AM4 boards are having some memory issues these will be worked out with BIOS updates I would wait a couple more months then update the BIOS or if your not sure what your doing take it to a shop to be updated.
