Stock i7-7700k hitting 100C?

Hello all,

I just finished building my new PC, and my stock i7-7700k is hitting 100C on core 0 after 5 minutes of Prime95, even after redoing the thermal paste. Screenshot is after 15 minutes.

Any idea what's going on?:

Idle temp is ~35C.

Well I wouldn't use the latest version of prime95, it uses avx calculations which is not a realistic type of load for say a gaming computer. I would use prime95 version 26.6, I linked it below.

However I would still say 100c is very warm for that cooler even if prime95 is using avx. I would assume the cooler was not mounted properly or you did not use enough thermal paste.

The 7700k chips are quite hot but not that hot. It's either a defective chip (unlikely) or you have not installed the cooler correctly.
