Just about to do my first ever overclock, the reason for this is my PC is struggling with Player Unkown: Battlegrounds and I have been told the beta isnt properly using GPU yet and is mainly CPU heavy.

Asus P8P61-PRO
Intel Core i7 2600k 3.4GHz
Hyper V 212 CPU Cooler

Is my system suitable for this, from what I have read my cooler should be fine?

Also what speed do people recommend going to? I dont want to push it to its absolute max and risk it blowing up in a few months ha.

Solution
My son's 2600k is running at 4.8 Ghz for 6+ years (max core = 75C/ w/ Thermalright Silver Arow)... I don't think that I still have a listing of BIOS settings as he installed new drives recently. Ther Hyper 212 is a "good cooler for the money" with the major emphasis being on the last 3 words. It is a great cooler for the money, it is not a great cooler in the tanks of the best available. If you want the best performance, you'll need a NH-D-15, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Phanteks PH-TC14PE ... don't waste ya time with CLCs.

For overclocking advice, I'd look at the overclocking threads for Sandy bridge over on overclock.net One linked below

Thanks for the advise will have a look at that - just been told theres a patch which will fix my issue. However I think when i get a better cooler I will overclock it as always fancied doing it. 6 years overclocked is impressive from what I hear overclocking tends to wear down processors quicker - not in your case!

Would you recommend those coolers over a water cpu cooler?
