My computer is USB 3.0, but printer cord is 2.0. What adapter, if there is one, do I need so I can use printer without buying a new cord?

None. Assuming both are Type-A (rectangular) ports, you just plug in the printer's USB2.0 cable on that PC's USB3.0 port and you're good to go. USB2.0 and USB3.0 are backwards-compatible.
If the printer cord is Type-B (square), you need to get a Type-B (female)-to-Type A (male) adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/USB-Adapter-Type-Male-Female/dp/B000AA78J6

I tried plugging it in and it won't work. Tells me that I have wrong USB as it is 2.0 and not 3.0.

Have you downloaded the latest drivers of the MG2520 for your OS (I suppose its Windows 10?): https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/mg-series/pixma-mg2520?tab=drivers_downloads
