I currently have the A68HM-PLUS motherboard and I want to upgrade parts of my PC. I also have the AMD A10-7860K R7 CPU. Are there any CPUs worth upgrading to that would support my mobo or is it worth upgrading the mobo first so I can get a better CPU in the future?

Solution
AM2/AM2+ socket CPUs are no longer being produced. Luckily, you still have the AM3/AM3+/AM4 sockets that support better and newer CPUs. I'd upgrade to a AM3/+, or if you've got the money, AM4. Ryzen is really doing well at the moment. :)

I think the max I will go is around £250-£300 but I think Id go as high as £310 for the Ryzen 7 1700. Do you think I'd need a cooling system for that? I only have stock cooling currently and Id have to figure that into the budget.

I believe any Ryzen that's not an X comes with a Wraith cooler. :)
