Hey, I'm in the market for a new graphics card, and I was deciding between these two. I will only be gaming in 1080p, and I mainly play games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Rust, and Battlefield 1. Which of these cards, or any others, would be the best for me? I currently have an i5 6400, 8gb ddr3 ram, and a GTX 1050ti. My budget is around $200, and I can buy the RX 580 for $200 and the GTX 970 for $160. Also, which of these would last the longest?

Solution
Well I assume the GTX 970 is used, so that's $160 cash as opposed to $220 including tax? The RX 580 will only be ~10-15% faster, but it's also a brand new card with an architecture and drivers better optimized for DX12. If you're in the states, you can do better than $160 on a GTX 970 if you look hard enough, but I wouldn't buy a used card unless you're at least pretty sure the last owner took care of it. You don't want a card that has been watercooled or mined on.

At $160, the GTX 970 looks like a great option for 1080p gaming. The RX &80 is most likely to last the longest and will perform slightly better in many scenarios, but honestly, save the $40 and go for the GTX 970.

Where can you purchase a 580 for $200? Does that include a discount? That is the card I would choose. I already have the 970 and I love it. It serves me very well. I purchased it over a year ago and the price drop has been dizzying. But anyways the 580 is slightly better. You would also receive a warranty.

Last longer? The 580 IS newer. It is more powerful but not by much.

Are you selling that 1050 and putting that money back into your rig along with some cash for a total of around $200? I would first upgrade to the 6600. I would then make the leap to the 580.
