So my current build is in my signature I built it beginning of November last year and I'm looking to get about a 4 year run out of these parts so technically coming up on year 1; however, I'm lookin to replace my i5 with an i7 6700k and the 6gb 1060 with a 1080ti. This has been the plan from the beginning though I am wondering if it is worth it or should I just upgrade to a 1070 and call it a day? After the end of four years (technically 5) the water cooling will come out and this will be given to my grandparents and little cousins as their gaming/browsing rig so I don't wanna leave em with complete shite either. Suggestions on what you all think is best i.e. keep the i5 and upgrade to 1100 series, vega, or volta when they drop or I7 and 1080ti, etc etc

Yeah - I was going to ask basically the same question... What's your monitor?

I would say it's more about the refresh rate than the resolution. If you're gaming at 60hz, then an i5 is just fine, whatever the resolution really. Obviously at 1080P a 1060 is just fine, 1440P/4K is going to run better on the 1080ti. But whatever the resolution, the i5 is up to 60hz gaming.

If you're targetting 100fps + then the i7 starts to make sense, particularly if you're also stepping up to a 1080ti. Forget the 6700K though. Just update your BIOS and you should be good to chuck a 7700K in there. Should OC to 5-5.1Ghz on water and give you the best gaming CPU at any price.

One last thing, if you have a GSync monitor then the 1080ti is a natural...

Depends on what resolution you are playing at. At 1080p your 1060 should be fine until volta for sure. If you plan on running a higher resolution then go with the 1080ti. Your cpu should be fine with a 1080ti.
The higher the resolution the less your cpu bottlenecks. I'm running a 1080ti with a i5-4690k and I've yet to see a bottleneck in any games I play (Battlefield 1 included).

One last thing, if you have a GSync monitor then the 1080ti is a natural choice. If you don't have a GSync monitor yet and you're happy to wait a month or possibly two, it might be worth waiting for Vega. Schedule H1 2017, so sometime in the next 8 weeks or so. It might not challenge the 1080ti... who knows... and there's always something on the horizon to tempt you to wait. You could buy now and be very happy. But if there's no pressing need to upgrade (as in, your rig is doing what you want it to right now), then waiting for Vega isn't a bad idea.
