Best SSD for Asus P6X58D-E motherboard?

What kind of SSD (SATAIII, eSATA, PCIe, M.2) will work best (if at all) with my Asus P6X58D-E motherboard? Will I benefit from buying additional controller for the faster/newer/contemporary SSDs? The motherboard has SATAIII controller, but unfortunately Marvell instead of Intel, so I heard it won't really work with SATAIII SSDs - is it true? My PC is i7-930, 18GB RAM, single Radeon HD5770 card. I'm looking for 120-240GB SSD.

Not available in Serbia but looks just fine.
Make sure you set Marwell SATA controller in AHCI mode before installing OS. Marwell because it's only SATA3 (6GB/sec) controler there.
Also do not despair if it doesn't show up in main BIOS screen, when set to AHCI mode some BIOS versions don't display it there but in BOOT order screen.

According to https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/specifications/ MB has SATA2 and SATA3 ports although unfortunately later one is by Marvell but practically any SSD with SATA3 would work. Maybe not at it's best but still way, way better than HDD.

That's the thing, the new SSD would be probably too fast for the motherboard, so I don't know if it would be better to buy the cheapest (slowest) reliable SATAIII SSD, or buy a new fast controller paired with similarly quick SSD, or maybe a fast SSD in a form of iPCIe card (or something similar, plugged directly to MB) - but will the motherboard allow to unleash such SSD full potential?)

 
It's never too fast but those adapters are not all they seem to be. With older systems they also may be a bear to make them boot of.
There are two SATA3 ports on that MB and although the are on Marwell controller and not native Intel and SSD will still be faster than on SATA2 and certainly many times faster than HDD.
So, my thinking is and that's the way I went is to spend money on larger SSD instead on fastest one. Backed up by larger HDD, 240GB is quite comfortable size. I have one of 240GB for W10, one of 120GB for W7 and two HDDs totaling 3TB and combination is enough for anything as HDDs are shared by bot windows and couple of portable, live Linux distros.

Since I had to make my decision really quickly (quite unusual for me - I usually spend way to much time researching in such cases), I was limited to the SSDs available in local shops. After few hours of desperate googling, I was about to buy Crucial MX300 2,5" 275GB SATA III (http://eu.crucial.com/eur/en/ct275mx300ssd1), but the salesman suggested the Goodram Iridium Pro 240GB (http://www.goodram.com/product/ssd/goodram-ssd-iridium-pro-2/) because of reliability (MLC memory and 5-year warranty) and I finally ended up with it - it's also quite fast, but I'm not very thrilled with it, since I know I'm not going to use it fully with the current rig (BTW: "Goodram" may sound tacky, but it is actually the only European RAM producer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilk_Elektronik), quite valued in Poland - I'm actually curious, if it's known anywhere abroad). Both drives were roughly 100$.

I only hope that my mobo is going to recognize it tommorow :O! Thanks Mike for your help!

Great to know that before (needlessly) getting hysterical!

I think I'm going to attach the SSD to Intel SATA2, though (for the stability and trim command). At least at the beginning.

I switched IDE to AHCI in bios before installing of the OS on the new SSD, but i still have one HDD that worked in IDE so far and - I guess - is now working in AHCI mode (hopefully without any arm to it (and the DVD connected to the same controller!)). The second HDD (actually my previous primary (SATA3) drive) still works on Marvell SATA3 and I have no idea if the Marvell controller automatically switched to AHCI following Intel SATA2 controller - I presume no). I was only aware that I should "change IDE to AHCI for SSD", but without any profound knowledge about it.
