Hard drive disappearing when downloaded to

I have been having an issue with my hard drive latley (model number - st3000dm001-1ch1) in which if anything is downloaded to the drive it will dissapear and if i try to access the drive through file manager the whole computer will crash. I have noticed theough that it is only downloads to this drive that cause it ot crash/dissapear, copying files to or from it from other drives works fine. So far the only this I have tried is windows's built in error checking, which turned up fine. I have got quite a bit on the drive so I would like to avoid formating it, unless it will be a definite fix.

This particular model of Seagate hard drive is very unstable and has a lot of head and media cache issues. It is always best to have your data backed up, no matter what model of drive you are using. But, in this case, I'd seriously consider replacing the drive and making a backup.
