I'm long overdue a complete overhaul of my CPU/mobo/ram. Primary use is gaming & CAD - some multitasking but nothing crazy.

In Aus I'm looking at these 2 options:

Ryzen 1600/ASRock B350 Pro4/8GB RAM @$530

i7 7700 (non K)/ASRock B250 Pro4/8GB RAM @$600

I understand the 1600 performs very well in multi-tasking & multi-threading applications - while the 7700 has the lead in single threaded applications (gaming).

Is the $70-80 extra worth the single-threaded performance increase in the stock 7700?

Solution
It depends. Are you playing on a 144Hz monitor and expect the highest possible framerate? Then you go i7-7700.

If you're playing on a 60/75Hz monitor, you're never really going to need an i7-7700. R5-1600 can do that aswell, easily.

i would go with the ryzen 'cuz the i7 is a bit overkill if you're not gone edite videos or doing some harde load and CAD is a program that the 1600 can handle as good as a i7 .
but i would a 8 gig more to your system so your CAD runs better and for multitasking with out any problems .
