The internet at my house keeps cutting out randomly, but more frequently when watching videos on youtube and netflix. This big problem is that when it cuts out, it doesn't just cut out for my computer, it cuts out for everyone else at my house using the internet. This problem only occurs when my laptop is connected to the internet and not when any other family members devices are.

Does the internet connection restore itself or do you/family member do something to restore the connection?

Is laptop directly connected to the router via an ethernet cable or do you use ethernet wall jacks or powerline adapters?

First try using a different, known working ethernet cable.

Connect the laptop to some other network ethernet port to see if the problem continues.

Who manages and configures your home's router? The logs (if available and enabled) may help diagnose the problem.

Need to narrow down the circumstances to eliminate possibilities.

The laptop is connected using wireless.
If the internet stops being used on the internet affecting computer it seems to restore its self. It seems like it gets overloaded and then it shuts off. The internet, wlan, and dsl lights on the modem will turn off when it disconnects everyone, so maybe it's a problem with the modem.
I don't have an ethernet cable, but I will go out and buy one if it will help.

If the modem lights all go out then could be power related. The circuit, the outlet, the power supply, and associated cables are suspect.

If just the internet, wlan, dsl lights go out then the network connectivity is suspect: I.e, the incoming telephone lines, the telephone wall jacks, the splitter/filter, and again the RJ-11 cables and plugs.

Look for any connections that are not snug and tight. Try swapping out cables with known working cables. Replace the splitter/filter.

The objective is to narrow down the specific source as much as possible.

The modem's manual should have a troubleshooting or diagnostic section with explanations about what the lights specifically indicate.

On the modem, the power light is still on when the internet cuts out but all of the other lights turn off. I swapped out the cables to some spare one to no success, the problem still occurs.
The problem only seems to occur when using a lot of internets up, but only on 1 particular computer. The other day it cut out while I was updating my anti-virus, and it constantly cuts out while watching Netflix and youtube. Although there are periods of time where the internet runs fine while watching videos. This leads me to think it might have something to do with my computer maybe overriding the modem.

The modem's DSL light should not go out completely EVER, it may brink slowly but never off, dark. If this is indeed happening then the modem is doing a power reset. Be sure it has sufficient ventilation around it, after that, you wanna tell your ISP to swap you a new one.

update on the situation, I brought an ethernet cable and plugged it into the computer that seems to be causing the internet problems, and the internet didn't cut out or slow down at all. I'd prefer to be able to use my computer around the house though instead of having to sit next to the modem when using the internet, so help would still be appreciated.

actually ignore my last comment, it worked for one night with the ethernet cable plugged into the computer that seems to be causing the problems and today i tried to watch a video and the dsl light went out again.
Should I get a new modem, im reluctant seeing as it only occurs when one of the household computers watches a youtube or netflix or downlaods something
