As the title suggests, i'm a little confused as to what i need to do with the bios on a new build. Some people are saying i should absolutely update my BIOS on a new build, while others say i shouldn't.

This is one of the articles i read that said you shouldn't update unless necessary:

https://www.howtogeek.com/136881/htg-explains-do-you-need-to-update-your-computers-bios/

So after reading many conflicting opinions i'd just like to get some from here, should i update my BIOS?

Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS Z270X-Gaming K5
Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16gb(2x8) 3000mhz.
CPU: 7700k

I'm hesitant because i've heard if you install the wrong version, or the power cuts off mid update it'll completely mess up your motherboard. If it's absolutely necessary, can i do it after installing windows 10, or do i have to do it before?

Thanks, and sorry for the ignorance.

I got boards 5+ years old still on there first release bios never had stability or hardware compatibility issues yet .. pretty much on that is ''if it aint broke don't fix it ''

then on some I had to flash that was down to last ditch effort to make ie stable of fix a hardware compatibility / support issue . like a new CPU/ GPU for that may need one for example a z87 motherboard would need a bios up date for the later haswell refresh CPU's or a older z67 board may need one to be able to use a newer gtx 900 or 10 series graphics card

if everything cpu wise is listed as supported under the bios you have factory flashed is supported you should not need anything or most bios updated has footnotes on what is covered and most may not fix any issue at all or fix issues your not experiencing

this all comes with user experience as you go and learn on what to do on that or when it maybe needed then is a judgment call on your behalf if its worth the risk to flash [bad bios flashing is not covered under motherboards warrantee /rma ]
