im building a computer for a school project and everything so far works, I just have one problem, the cord on the power button has 9 pins. 5 on top and 4 on bottom. The power connecter on the motherboard also has 5 on top 4 on bottom, however it is in a position that the connector wont line up and fit correctly. Is there some kind of adapter i might be able to find? Ive been looking and i cant seem to find one. Im also aware that most motherboards have multiple connections but this one is very old.

Are you sure it is power connector and not front usb? Normally older cases, and even most newer ones have buttons and leds separated. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-BEZELWRKIT-Case-Front-Bezel/dp/B00213KDQK/
