I'm using an ASUS laptop. Recently moved houses. Internet was perfect previously no issues. After moving we got a new router from Cox. Since then my internet has been horrible 1-4/mbps. When I should be getting 75-120.

The two other laptops in the house have no issues their wifi works fine. Tablets and phones also work ok. It's only my one laptop that is so slow it pretty much can't be used.

I am running Windows 10. Also when I plug it in directly into Ethernet the connection works fine. However I am unable to contentiously plug it into the Ethernet and need to fix the wifi.

Well first off, I would make sure the network drivers are updated. Once that is done, flush out the DNS. To do this, go to command prompt as an admin, and use this command: ipconfig /flushdns. Next you want to verify that your router has no limitations. Is this a gateway modem (modem+router)? I would recommend having your own router. It gives you more control, and you really don't lose speed. I also have Cox with teh 300mbps plan, and I get 360mbps wired, and 250 on wireless.

Drivers appear to be updated according to Microsoft. Also did the flushdns still the same.

This is unfortunately a gateway modem. Previous house had a separate modem + router combo via version. Switched to cox and now we have this combo.

We had to send back to the router to Verizon I believe.

I just did the safe mode test. Results were horrid lol

Download speed: 200kbps
Upload: 1.15mpbs
Latency: 1618ms

There is something wrong with you network card then. I would grab the drivers from the manufcatoer. Put it on a flash drive. Then completely remove network drivers installed, and install the latest. If THAT doesn't work, you may want to re-install the OS.

Ok I installed the latest drives from the ASUS website. I'm also currently 4 inches away from my router.

It seems like it's running faster. Web pages are actually loading at a reasonable rate, youtube videos load. It's not necessarily quick but it's went from unusable to somewhat usable.

But whats strange is I still get a horrible speedtest of 1.5 mbps download and 5mbps upload

With Ethernet I get speeds of 80-110. We're paying for 120 the cable guy told me.

The thing is, being TOO close to the router can cause problems. It's called signal bouncing. When the router is giving off the singaals, the laptop is also trying to transmit signals as well. Another thing I forgot to mention is to make sure you are in Full Duplex mode. Go to the other side of the room, and tell me what is the speed is. After installing the new drivers, go back in to safe mode with networking, and run the test again. Also, you are not behind a proxy or VPN, right? (I doubt it since wired connection is fine).

This is a one bedroom apartment everything is very close. Testing the speed in the next room over.

Speedtest a bit better. 9.65mbps download 8.66mbps upload. It's still a slow connection but it's somewhat usable now.

Not sure what full duplex mode is. Also no proxy or VPN.

Yes. Only my laptop has issues. My phones and my brothers laptops even my kindle fire work perfectly.

Edit: Just ran speedtest on my phone and kindle. Still getting nowhere near 120 on those either. But on the kindle I got 34kbps up/27.5 down

Phone 16mbps down/14 up then ran a second test 24 down/13 up

The week after we moved I had someone come out here and set us up with a new router complaining about this issue. The guy couldn't find anything wrong, installed a new router anyway and had me do a speedtest on my phone and I was getting 60-80mbps in front of him.

When I called their tech support we did many little things, they then said it's my laptops fault because they show that they are properly 'pumping in 120mbps'

Will need to test it on my brothers computer when he gets home. But I know his computer is usable as he is on it all the time when he is here, so he must be getting 40+

Will WiFi will never match wired connections. However, I recommend getting a router between the modem and network. I tested mine on my combo modem, and I used to get 20-50 on a 5Ghz network, once I used my router, it jumped up to 150-200...so just my two cents.

I was actually able to find the old Netgear router from our previous house. I know it's a high quality dual band router. I just need to find the wires and i'll try to set it up and report back.

Sweet, I hope that works. Keep us updated.
