Okay, maybe I should clarify. I have a Dell Optiplex 7010 Desktop (not Mini Tower) already with an i7-3770 wired to a Q77 Express Chipset. Then I upgraded with a Geforce GTX 1050 Ti (man that blows me away), and replaced HDD with a WD Blue 1TB HDD. And then there is two sticks of 8GB DDR3 RAM running at 1600 MHz.
And here's the question: Can I add another 8GB of Corsair Platinum?
I measured the interior of my computer and it could fit. But with its heat spreaders and thickness be considered "overkill?" The Platinum is definitely bigger than the standard-looking OEM RAM. And, since I'm careless and stupid, I already ordered it...

Solution
First, the new RAM may or may not work with the OEM RAM.

Second, unless you are actually running out of RAM in your applications such that the system starts swapping memory to your storage device this is a waste of money.

If the new RAM does work with the OEM RAM you will still lose the dual channel capability of the motherboard so it will be running effectively at half speed compared to the two OEM modules.
