So thats a nasty blown fan header........ Confirmed header is blown and not working... other fan headers all working and functioning normally.

Before I get time to dismantle whole rig and check out further possible damage down back of Mobo, Is this enough to be giving me some crazy, irratic problems?

Peace.

(Edit.. images now working, sorry)

Solution
Hangs @ boot might cause instability, it's probably taking it's time looking for that header and getting some wacked readouts maybe a short. The biggest issue I see is there may be damage that you can't see to the board on something other than a fan header, if the resistance is wrong or shorts or any number of things could happen between the power button and windows. Being old, I'm still amazed computer work at all... Billions of transistors all have to be good enough just to get it to turn over, and they mass produce them things. Anyways, ya, that can cause instability. If the board decides it's not working and then all of a sudden it is working (not in practice, as far as the board is concerned), then not working again, ya, troubles.

At the moment cold boot success is about 50/50.
Restart from within windows is about 40/60 chance of success.
Throws an error usualyl relating to PCI Bus Enumeration or no error but freeze/hang or blank screen.
It concerns me that that header is right near USB 3.0, Memory and Chipset.
I wont get time or chance to dismantle for a few days, especially because to get my Mobo out Ill probably have to at least take out 1 x rad, probably 2, and drain loop etc.

Keep getting (error) Event ID 2 Kernel-Event Tracing & (critical) ID 41 Kernel Power if system hangs and reboots, if that helps.
I suppose prognosis is get a new Mobo before it blows other components :(

Thanks for the reply.

Hey no problem, I'm on a custom loop too, though not quite as extensive as yours... Yet... But ya, I constantly worry about it. I just did two motherboard changes in the last month and a half. Had to send my Asus to the shop to get looked at cause of faulty RAM slots, bought a Gigabyte, wasn't happy with the Gigabyte and the Ryzen was out, and those extra cores looked tasty, so I got that switched everything out again, plus I'm in the middle of upgrading my graphics card, waiting patiently for Vega to get here cause man freesync is awesome. I like my loaner 470 better than my old 980ti. Course, I'm retired so it's not like I don't have the free time.

lol :)
Yeah this rig originally was for VR testing when Oculus Rift Dk2 came out, used to have Sli 980's in it hence the pretty serious loop lol

Thing is I've loved this Rog Ranger Vii Mobo since day one, been solid as a rock all the time, and now this........
Cant really justify upgrading cpu & mobo etc now so Im guessing I'll be looking at another z97 board.

But a like for like replacement cost-wise just doesnt make sence.....any suggestions?
I was thinking something like a MSI Z97 GAMING 3 or a ASRock Z97 Anniversary Z97.... they seem cost effective at the moment.

And of course theres always a chance that I change the Mobo and have exact same issues lol ... gotta love computers :)

Go with the MSI. My current rig has a MSI Gaming Titanium, and I gotta say, feel wise, it's the most solid board I've ever owned. Featurewise, Asus wins hands down. I used to use almost exclusively MSI boards, never had one fail on me, but also I've never had one perfect out of the box. Even this one I'm waiting on bios updates to try and get my memory where it should be. I've only owned one Asrock and that was such a bad experience all around that I won't go with them or recommend them again. Ever. They seem to be the goto, but you don't see many reviews past a year, that seems to be about where the quality ends on them, this is just speculation, people might run them for years, just sayin you don't see many Go With Asrock. Asus/Gigabyte/MSI. Thems the big three. Actually, if you can find a used Asus Sabertooth, you should be able to get it at a decent price, and in the US it's got a 5 year warranty that follows the board, even if you bought the board overseas, if you live in the US the warranty is good. I think they came out in 2012, so ask for the serial number and you can look it up on their site or call and they'll give you the warranty info over the phone.

UK here.
I Can pick up a factory refurbished Z97 Sabertooth (without the armour) for around £105.21 ($134.86)
I can get a new MSI ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards Z97 GAMING 3 for £86.67 ($111.07)
I cant justify the price jump to a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 @ £167.91 ($215.20) or a new Sabertooth @ £148.54 ($190.32)

Either way, money is an issue this month.... will have to wait a little while lol

As a precaution I have disabled USB ports that im not using, disabled any auto/voltage control settings going to that blown fan header, not using any USB 3.0 ports (because of blown header location), turned down clock on memory (same reason), and triple checked nothing on system is running overclocked.

Makes me feel like Im limiting heat/voltage through any failing area lol :)

Will see how it goes.

Thanks.

(That MSI Gaming 3 price is really good (seller has 500+ in stock so guessing thats the reason))
