Xeon E3-1230 vs E3-1230 V2

The price difference seems greater than performance difference. I want to replace an i5-2500 w/ the E3-1230 so games like BF1 won't bottleneck with an RX 470. Right now it's pretty bad with the i5 in online battles.

$82 on eBay for the hyper-threaded Sandy Bridge Xeon seems like a great value. Whereas the Ivy Bridge is $120 or more. At that price I might as well get the i7-2600K for $140 and overclock it because I have a Z77 Mobo. This was originally meant to be a temporary rig, but who knows.

Anyone have any input?

yeah changing to the 1230 would be a good upgrade for that price. As you are on a Z77 board you may be able to clock it higher also.

On the regular non-k i5s and i7s you could overclock by 400mhz, so same might be true of the 1230.
