How many of the same input can be used in one GPU?

After hours of looking and no answers, I'm starting to feel a bit silly. I'm planning on getting the GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X 6G and it has 3 DisplayPorts, so I'm planning on having dual monitors using them because I heard they are the best out of HDMI and DVI, but could I use two DisplayPort cables, one from each monitor, into two of the three DisplayPort inputs on the GPU?? I started to feel a bit silly because I mean, why would they put multiple inputs if you could only use one, but idk I'm just getting into computers and planning on spending a good amount of money on this so I just want to be sure.

Thanks in advance!!

Edit: Also, I have a CyberPowerPC X-Sentinel Case, but for the life of me I can't figure out if the GTX 1060 will fit or not. Any help or suggestions would be great :)

  1. On the GPU they are OUTPUTS, on monitors they are INPUTS. Anyway, yes you can use 2 or 3 monitors with that GPU. You need proper cables of course.
In your OS, you can set them to display different or same picture.

So would I have to use two different outputs? Like one monitor uses HDMI and the other uses DisplayPort or can they both use the same type? I'd like them both to use DP

  3. For best results, input and output should match without any adapters, So DVI to DVI, HDMI to HDMI and DP to DP.

Thanks so much for your response and patience trying to help me understand. So if I had two DP cables, each going from a monitor and into the GPU, would that be okay? So two of the three DP outputs would be in use in that case scenario. Physically I could, but I have a feeling it won't work because when I look up dual monitors everyone seems to use two different outputs.

Not many GPUs have all or majority of the outputs being same. Mine has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI and one DP so I use 2 DVI connections to monitors and HDMI for third. There's no problems at all with setup like that. Which monitor displays what can be set in GPU driver and OS.
