Ok... as title says I dont care if your possible explanation for this involves unicorns or dark matter or anything :)

Existing problem as highlighted in these threads....

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3392190/4790k-ranger-vii-voltage-issue-watercooled-loop-stuttering-power.html

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3394118/nasty-blown-fan-header-impact-system-performance-stability.html

However I have the absolute most stupid, unlikely and crazy workaround....
And I want anyones wildest guesses as to HOW!!!???

All of the problems highlighted in those threads regarding stuttering and unwarned reboots in-game are so far solved by RECORDING WITH SHADOWPLAY WHILST IN GAME ??!!??

Without recording... constant stutter mini-freezes and sound looping
With recording..... no sign of any problem at all.

Its not a ssd/hd issue after recording because I have tried from cold boot without recording and issue is still there.

So i have set shadowplay to record with alt+f9 key press at lowest bitrate/quality/size, and simply delete the recorded file after gaming or desktop use or whatever.

Yes I know it makes no sense, and yes I know the real root of the problem is not sorted (I plan on getting a new mobo when I can to hopefully solve it once and for all.

So theres your challenge guys.... give me your theories.

Peace.

Where do you experience stuttering and sound loops? While on desktop/browser or in games ?

Hi, Desktop, browser etc gaming, benchmarking... everywhere basically. Seems to happen more regulary during movie playback or cutscenes etc .... Unless im recording with shadowplay.
When it stutters ive checked Afterburner monitoring and it seems like gpu & cpu are both affected ie: usage shoots down and then pops back up.
PSU is Corsair RM1000 and as far as I can tell is producing steady reliable power.

Thanks for the reply.

Did you try changing power options to high performance and manually went through it and make sure everything is maxed out so your cpu don't drop frequency and some kind of power saving option isn't causing this?

Thanks for the suggestion, but alas I have already gone through every single power option in windows and in BIOS (current BIOS is optimised defaults) and even tried with processor min & max @ 100%

*At this moment in time I am running a fresh clean WIN10 install from a spare (incredibly slow) Hard Drive, so far (20 mins) I have not experienced this issue. Other hard drives are disconnected, but still running GTX 970 as primary (cpu gfx disabled), still have soundcard in, obviously my pump is still connected and running etc :D

Damn I forgot how much faster an SSD makes a PC lol ;)

But 1) could be just because its a fresh install that it seems smoother or 2) maybe it is a software issue..... borked update? (I did have creators update installed)

Further testing defo still needed, and that burnt out fan header is still worrying me a lot.

Thanks

There is one thing i used when i had problems with tv card and that is increasing pci latency timer. Try look in bios if you have it there and turn it to higher value, it increase stability but can decrease performance if you turn it too high.

I don't seem to have that option in BIOS .... Asus Maximus Ranger VII
Anyone know of Asus' naming criteria for/if it has this option?

Thanks.

*Slight update......

I've now been running this fresh WIN10 for over an hour..... had 1 possible occasion when I 'thought' the issue had re-surfaced..... it was UAC popping up (have it disabled on my other installation).
ie: Slight stutter, mouse jerk and delay for quarter second just before UAC box popped up.

Coincidence?

*Update.... problem and symptoms are in fact still there :(
Just taking longer to manifest.

So that means I've narrowed it down to Memory, CPU, GPU, PSU or Motherboard :D lol

I'm leaning towards Motherboard because of that nasty looking blown Fan Header near the memory, chipset & USB cable.

Will test with CPU running at full speed all the time ie: no speed step, power management to try and confirm at least something today :)

Thanks.

*Update no difference with cpu load state, or GPU load state........

I think this is a good thing.... Ive more or less decided its either PSU or Mobo

Next step is to totally dismanle rig and examine blown fan header area on back of board.
