WPS maybe disabled on the router or it may be partially disabled and only work when you push the button.
This feature should be completely disabled it is a major security exposure and can be cracked. It is impossible to change the code so once it is exposed there is no fixing it.
Ask for the actual password and key it in along with the SSID.
