Hey guys, I'm building my dad a new PC. He had a Dell Inspiron 560s (w/ Core 2 Duo E7500 and 4GB RAM) for 8 years, but it has now become a pain is the arse to use now. He'll be needing the new PC for normal daily usage like browsing, MS Office, transferring photos from camera and stuff like that. He's not into any kind of heavy usage programs. But, the main thing is that he not likely to upgrade in coming 6-7 years. I'm considering Pentium G4560, i3 7100 and i5 7400. Which one would you recommend?

Gonna pair it with 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 240GB SSD for OS and essential programs.

For what your dad is doing the G4560 should be fine, though the i5-7400 will keep its pep a bit longer. I just wouldn't expect any massive increases in demand for power for him as long as he doesn't take up gaming.

Then get the i5 ... 7 years is alot... had you said 3-4 years okay , but 7 is too much.

look at AMD Ryzen as well .

For MS Office and browsing the internet? On what planet do you need a i7 for that? Theres still tons of people on Core 2 Duos doing just that..
