Hello experts,

Didn't really know where else to go, or where to start but this seemed like the most logical place to start asking questions at. Please bare with me, I am good in networking but far from being a pro at it.

I am trying to upgrade my current wireless router to one that has greater range and greater speeds. The aforementioned router is a bit dated and range suffers. So far, every attempt I made at replacing this has been an epic fail. Seems like smart routers can't even communicate with stupid ASIC devices.

I purchased the TrendNet router because it is essentially, a cheap level 3 switch; which I needed and has been doing this specific job perfectly. I'm a Bitcoin miner too, so my network has aging "dummy" devices but my TrendNet is capable of pushing them. All my miners are running static IP's because mining on Wi-Fi is asinine.

Here is the network layout currently:

-ZTE Rocket Hub modem with Wi-Fi turned off
-1 Windows 7 network hub / monitor - hardwired
-1 TrendNet TEW-733GR with Wi-Fi turned off
-3 to 5 First Generation ASIC Bitcoin Miners
-2 Second Generation ASIC Miners (off right now)

I intend on growing my mining network back to what it used to be so I need a router that can still handle those machines. So far, I have tried 3 routers from 3 different manufacturers and all three have been a wired internet fail. Costing me and the retailer money but it is ruining my time.

What are the odds that 3 top rated routers had such terrible wired internet, or at the very least, failed where my $50 router handles it like child's play. Makes you wonder just how much they test their devices or if they actually are about having customers keep their products. Here are the routers I tested so far:

-TP-Link Archer C7 AC1900
-ASUS AC5300
-Netgear X8 Nighthawk AC5300

I don't understand why my $50 router works no fault but C$500 router can't handle it?? Is there something I am missing here? Seems like new routers should work much better when in fact, all I want is a router with greater range and greater speeds so I can extend my office to my garage. I already have a Netgear range extender which works great with my TrendNet but only when beside it but work at a distance due to the TrendNet signal being too weak. Doesn't need much more but it's just enough so I don't get a decent connection between router and extender.

I am looking for the best possible replacement, so far doesn't seem like throwing money at it does anything. Those routers just do not want to communicate with wired devices with static IP's. Connecting via Wi-Fi is a non-issue, connecting via wired only works for computers.... but barely, where the old one doesn't break a sweat.

A real headache, I know... I appreciate all information, fed up of wasting time and money.

I also tried hooking up an access point to the router which shows internet connection but doesn't transfer. Which leads me to believe that most of today's routers discriminate against dumb devices with static IP addresses.

They only want smart devices to connect to them, would this be a fair assumption?

Thank You

-Jay
