I was on craiglist today looking up used graphics cards for the fun of it. I came a cross two that interests me. A Radeon Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X Graphics Card for $200 and a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 for $250.

Right now I have a R9 380 [2GB] in my system now, so I don't need to upgrade, but I was thinking $200-$250 dollars for a high end GPU isn't that bad right? If I do get one (maybe both, why not?) I would definitely upgrade my monitor to 1080p maybe even 1440p with settings turned down (rocking 720p right now).

What are your guy's opinion? Should I go for it?

the 290 is more like GTX970 in performance. but at $250 you can get current generation of card that is as fast as 980 or slightly faster like RX580.
Is this in canada?
I definitely wouldn't buy a 980 for $250 in the USA, GTX 1060 will be new fresh and beat it, RX 480 gets close enough and sometimes cheaper

R9 290 is nice for the price but buy an RX 480 4GB, basically match it, and have less power draw and heat.

There's also the new RX 500 series I hear came out, might wanna see what that will wind up being priced at.
