CPU runs at 800mhz when RAM is over clocked via XMP

When I over clock my RAM using XMP in bios it locks my CPU at 800mhz, but when the RAM is stock clocked the CPU trturns to normal. Is this due to faulty RAM stick(s)?

I have tried using throttlestop, resetting CMOS, re-insert RAM, and updated all of my windows, gpu, and bios drivers. Nothing seems to get my RAM to the rated speed.

CPU:i7 7700K
GPU:GTX 1080 Ti
RAM:Dual channel Dominator platinum 16gb DDR4 3000mhz
PSU:Hx750i PSU
MOBO:Asus Strix Z270G

Solution
I just went to the Asus website and grabbed a copy of an older Bios and flashed the bios using a USB drive. Yes I think it's just an issue with the board and not so much with the CPU. Thanks

Intel speedstep will come into play regardless if your RAM is overclocked. Running CPU intensive apps the cores should be around 4200Mhz.

Even when stress testing the CPU is at 800mhz on all cores.

gary im having the same issue as we speak. my 3200 ddr4 will not allow me to run it at that speed with a OC, instead i have to run it clocked at 2932mhz and it runs fine. i do have the same motherboard as you as well. im still working on it if i find something out ill let u know

Hey, I still have not found a solution. In the meantime I have resorted to running the RAM at 2133mhz and everything is working normally.

Did you try disabling BD PROCHOT in ThrottleStop? This is a signal path to your CPU. Disabling this signal path blocks outside throttling signals getting to your CPU. If this works or doesn't work, post a screenshot of ThrottleStop so I can see how you have the program setup.

I did try manually setting the multiplier with no luck, the only fix I found for it was rolling back to an older BIOS. I'm currently on BIOS 0801 and that's fixed the issue for me. No problems using XMP on my Corsair LPX 3200mhz. Thanks anyway

How did you downgrade your bios? I think this may be a bios-specific issue with respect to Asus' Strix Z270G boards.

the newer BIOS 1009 i think it is has fixed the problem and is working again. This time i paid attention to the steps i did in order to get it working. Go into BIOS and set it for the 5ghz OC. Go and pick the XMP mem OC method then sync all cores to 48 BAM done...
