I have suffered horrible lag in games despite having low ping ever since I've installed this new network card. this lag was present in both DotA 2 and CSGO (much worse in CSGO). This is a specific problem for my computer and is not present in other computers in my household.

Network Info:

ISP: Telus
Wifi Card: PCE-AC55BBT dual band wireless-AC1200
Modem: telus web6000q
Router: Telus T2200H
Power Supply: EVGA 500B 500W

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz
GPU: Radeon R9270x
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H97-D3H

Solution
How far is your computer from the router? 5GHz will give you the best performance if there are no walls or major obstructions that can block the signal and if your computer is close by. 2.4 GHz will give you better performance if there are many walls between the computer and router and if there is some distance between them. It should be possible to lock the router at 2.4 GHz.

Can you play CS:GO without a hitch on other computers on your network? Try looking into you wifi card settings and disabling any proprietary settings. Make sure the driver is up to date. Try putting some settings into a "fixed" mode instead of auto.

Unfortunately I am unable to test csgo on other computers. I had to make a small change to the OP since I listed the wrong wifi card.

I opened up device manager and found in the properties of the card that I had the property set to the wrong GHz. It was set 802.11n Channel Width for 2.4GHZ. I had to change it to 802.11n Channel Width for 5.2GHz to closer match my connection and it seems to be working so far in CSGO. I'll change this to solved if it continues to work. thanks.

Ok for the most part it's fixed but there's still select parts where I lag a bit. I have three connections made available to me. My regular Wifi, Wifi-2.4G, and Wifi-5G. I am connected with the wifi-5G and I think it's up to date according to device manager.

it's actually downstairs so I will try and change everything to 2.4GHz including the router and see how that works.
