I currently use an ethernet that plugs into the standard outlet plug. It works quite well but occasionally cuts out for a few minutes(once or sometimes not even once a day). It wouldn't be that bad but I participate in an online game where crashing is really bad and ruins the game for others. If I get a wifi adapter is there a way for my computer to use both so when the ethernet cuts out for a few minutes the wifi adapter will allow me to not crash?

Wifi is not really a option because as mentioned you likely would have to manually switch it.

Why do you think your ethernet is going down. This is something rather rare. The cable itself is seldom is the problem and you should be able repair it or replace it much more easily than trying to run a second nic. If the switch or router is failing then another nic may not solve this.

In enterprise installations they can protect a server against a switch or cable failure by having 2 switches and 2 ethernet in the server. It can then use a protocol called spanning tree to quickly fail to a backup connection. You seldom see a actual failure it is more used to be able to do maintenance on switches without causing a outage.
