I day trade so am interested in fastest speed from my workstation to my broker. Is this effected by ISP speed. How can I improve this speed??

Solution

Not really.
Once the signal leaves your house, it is up to the vagaries of the internet.

This is one of the reasons that real estate in/near wall street is so expensive.
The big trading houses want their servers as close to the exchange as is physically possible.

The word you're looking for is *ping*.
Without getting too technical, that is the time it takes for a round trip from your system, to whatever server, and back.
Measured in milliseconds.

You improve the *ping* by moving physically closer to the server.

For instance, I have 75/75 fiber connection from Verizon.

Using speedtest.net, to a server close to here, ~50 miles, might show ISP speed of 82/81, and a ping of 25 ms.
Using that same test, but to a server 3,000 miles away, might show "ISP speed" of 80/80, but a ping of 220ms.

Ok Thanks for that and I get that and thank you very much .
Now is there anything that I can do to reduce the ping time short of moving closer to my brokers server?? Hardware, software, etc??
