A couple of days back my GPU seemed to stop working. Was getting no signal. Anyway, in the process of trying to troubleshoot the problem i have narrowed it down to what makes no sense to me all.

What i figured out was that the the GPU worked fine with a dvi cable. Windows also shows through the hdmi but the boot screen doesn't. That only shows through dvi. This is the case whether the dvi is plugged in or not. (With only hdmi screen is black until windows loads). Within Windows i can change screens but i can only put the hdmi on 1 of 2 resolutions, 800x600 and another equally low one. The dvi connection works perfectly all the way to 1080p.

I swapped out my r9 280x for a geforce 210 which is my spare. It acted exactly the same way

The hdmi is plugged into a HDTV and the dvi a monitor. When i put the hdmi in the monitor instead it's exactly the same as the TV. I have tried 3 hdmi cables, no difference. 2 different screens, no difference. Updated bios, no difference. Reinstalled windows, no difference. No matter what i do it's the same.

I can't seem to find anything in the bios that could be causing it. Have tried swapping other components out but no change. That leaves the PSU and motherboard. If either of those had a fault could it really cause this to happen?? Why only hdmi??

All roads lead to the mobo but it doesn't make sense. Any help would be greatly Appreciated
