I have a Samsung Core Prime phone stuck in a boot loop after trying to apply the latest Android software update. Have been to or talked with at least 6 places (incl Samsung Support & Best Buy) trying to recover photos etc. Have been told I need to find someone able to disassemble the phone to access the internal storage (hard drive?). I know this will probably be pricey, but need to exhaust all options. Hope what's been done already hasn't screwed things up. Aargh! Can anyone recommend a place that can help me? Thanks!

There's no hard drives in phones, even smallest HDD is larger than phone itself. What it has is solid state memory of which main one is integral or soldered on phone's motherboard. It's a major surgery.
I suppose you already checked contents of add on microSD card, it's possible to store pictures and other stuff or some of them are there and that could be retrieved by another phone or by connecting to a computer via appropriate USB adapter.

Thanks for your response. And yes, swapping the microSD card was the #1 attempt. Some contacts were restored, but not the most recent ones, and none of the photos, calendar, or texts.
So my question still remains....where can I find someone to do the "major surgery" (or whatever required) to try and restore the info contained in that solid state memory?

Only people that can do major repairs on phones or eventually services for data retrieval but they mostly deal with hard disks and such media. In any case it's very expensive. Maybe if phone could be repaired without loosing any data is a viable prospect.

OK....perhaps that might work......so how do I find people with those skills? I've now made phone calls to everyone listed as "phone repair" in the nearest large town (200K population) and none of them want to take it on, nor does anyone they have recommended. The Samsung person at Best Buy did something they said would return the OS to the original without harming the photos (flash?), but it didn't change anything. Once the words "boot loop" comes up, no one wants to touch it. Does anyone have a specific recommendation of who might be able to take on this challenge? I'll be happy to send the phone somewhere, I just don't know where.

Been fussing with this for a couple of hours....currently getting an "MTP USB Device" driver failure. Will continue to work on it to see if I can get it recognized. Thanks.

Update: still no success. I'm not the most savvy person to resolve these kinds of issues, but nothing I've tried worked, including getting a driver from another source. The Best Buy Samsung guy couldn't get it recognized when I was there a few days ago, so guess it's not completely me. I did notice whatever he did reduced the number of apps to be optimized from 20 to 7, and one time last night in the boot loop it got up to app 6 before turning off. So close and yet so far!

So....now what?
