I have some extra cash and I am thinking about upgrading something in my gaming rig. All I use this computer for is a glorified steam box and I watch YouTube/netflix. Any advise on what is the weakest link. I feel I need a new motherboard and GPU. Any thoughts?

Msi 970A-G43
fx6300
GTX 1060 sc 6 gig
Kingston 120 SSD
1 tb wd blue
1 stick 8 gig ram Kingston

First off I'd have to ask what monitor resolution you're running. If you're running a 1080P 60Hz monitor, it doesn't take a lot of horsepower to play games at a decent resolution. An FX-6300 is a decent CPU but if you're interested in upgrading, I would wait until you can do a full motherboard and CPU swap.

And the real advice I would give would be two questions you should ask yourself:

1. How much are you looking to spend overall on said upgrade?
2. Is it worth the cost? How much will you plan to get out of it?

So there's two ways you could go. You could with an Intel rig or an AMD R5. The only downside right now is the price of RAM is so crazy expensive. So with that in mind you could do this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-7600K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.00 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H5 Universal 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($46.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: ASRock Z270 Extreme4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($144.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($120.49 @ OutletPC)
Total: $540.86
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or you could do this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($217.98 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H5 Universal 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($46.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B350-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard ($98.88 @ OutletPC)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($120.49 @ OutletPC)
Total: $484.23
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Your 1060 is fine for the time being. The only thing you could really do is upgrade to a 1070 or add a second for SLI.
