No lights are flashing either when I plug it in
WiFi works fine using an external usb
I'm using the B250m-k motherboard.
I am using Windows 10

Some info:
I have downloaded the latest drivers
I have tried multiple cables
I have disabled Energy Efficient Ethernet and Green Ethernet
I have unticked the box in Power Management that says 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.

edit- Checked with a friends laptop and it didn't work either

you will need to check with your schools IT staff. They may have disabled the jack or restricted the jack. Generally, since most machines have wifi, schools tend to disable jacks to save resources or for other security reasons.

not sure what you mean by "check with a friend laptop".
But there are two ends of an ethernet connection. Your machine is either not working or the device you are connecting to is not working.
If by stating that your friend's machine too does not work that its the port or device (router?) and not your machine.

If its a router or switch, reset that device.
