Are there SATA 3 HD Male to USB3 Male Cables on the market? i ask this question, as I am into PC Audio, and haven't managed a answer from any where else.

Is it possible to make or purchase a lead, that would provide data transfer only (not power) from a WD RED SATA3 HDD to a USB3 input ?
Now i don't undertand everything, but I would have just presumed, you would not need any convertors, just a lead wired correctly.

The reason I ask, I couldn't find a lead, but managed a work around, that was to purchase a SATA3 to eSata cable, and then by chance, I purchase via ebay a USB3 to eSATA adaptor to plug into the USB3 input, but the bit I couldn't undertand, is the adaptor is on a PCB, and on it is a 30,000 Mhz crystal and some small SMT components, why would this be needed ?

Is this the reason why there isn't any leads, because you need a PCB with components for it to work, rather than direct connect.
This is my 1st post do please be gentle and educate me

There's no direct SATA to USB link, they are two completely different things. What you need is something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/StarTech-USB-3-0-To-2-5-SATA-III-Hard-Drive-Adapter-Cable-W-UASP-SATA-To-USB-/252490910695 for a 2.5" SATA disk or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Anker-USB-3-0-to-SATA-Portable-Adapter-with-3ft-Cable-and-Power-Adapter-for-2-/301763910236 for 3.5" disks.
2.5" disks can have power thru USB only while 3.5" disks need extra power mostly because they need 12v while USB provides 5v only.

so your trying to connect a SATA drive as a usb device ?
so get an enclosure for it like this that has the mini boards inside to perform the conversion service and let you use the HD/SDD as a usb external device
for example
sdd/HDD laptop size 2.3" Syba CL-ENC25035 Aluminum USB 3.0 SATA III 2.5" HDD Enclosure
or 3.5" HDD's Syba CL-ENC35027 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure
if the work/need for that harddrive is to be temporary I would suggest investing into a device that plugs into USB and permits to have either ssd/or HDD of either 2/5 or 3.5" slotted in while you format /get data off etc
(it is what I use for all repair work on HDD) Syba SI-ENC50070 USB 3.0 2.5" & 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Docking Station

I think l may have to explain again, l only require data between drives, l have separate psu for HD.
I have the some of the adapters, but my original question if a pcb board is needed with a 30mhz crystal is needed to carry just the data down the cable?
