Hello. I had to take one of the ram sticks off of my gaming aura 970 due to bluescreens, but in the process, the button that I push to unlock the ram, broke off.

I have 2 questions.

1. Can I still put a ram stick in this slot or is it a lost cause

2. Is there a way to fix it?

(please don't ridicule me about incorrectly mounting my CPU fan. I know it's the wrong way)

Dude I guess it is probably lost since u broke it but it wont hurt to give it a try just in case ! If it does not work which it probably wont I recommend u check with the mobo manufacturer whether it can be fixed if not ask if it can be replaced !

Noting to your 1st answer, it does lock from one side, if you look at the page of the asus gaming aura 970. So it should be safe to re-insert that DIMM? It's only the button that is broken and last time i tried to take it out i had to use a screwdriver

The only problem that can arise is: without lock, there's nothing to hold ram stick in place other then friction in the slot. So whenever you machine is hit/moved (due to lack of space in my room, I accidentally kick my PC quite often), you risk the stick falling out of slot and causing damage to itself and/or slot.
Not to mention, using screwdriver to remove stick can cause damage to nearby components if your hand slips :)

When i tested to see if the ram slot would click when i inserted ram into it after the button came off, it clicked. After it clicked, i tried to pull it out and it didnt even move. The thing that secures the ram is fully functional because i can even see the thing that the button sat on and it moved and clicked into place when i inserted the ram. There would be no chance of the ram coming out without a screwdriver. The only thing im worried about is whether or not the ram is actually in there enough to have 100% contact with whatever touches it to do the things that ram does. Ive seen videos of people taking out ram while a computer is running and the screen goes crazy and they warn you not to do this for possible damage to your computer.
