I'm building my first desktop PC, here are the specs:
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce OC
- samsung 850 evo 500gb 2.5-inch sata iii internal ssd
- western digital 1tb sata 6gb/s 7200 rpm 64mb cache 3.5 inch
- corsair hydro series h115i extreme performance liquid cpu cooler
- nzxt s340 mid tower computer case
- intel 7th gen intel core desktop processor i7-7700k
- corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 dram 3200MHz c16
- asus rog maximus ix hero lga1151 ddr4 dp hdmi m.2 usb 3.1 atx motherboard
- EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G3, 80 Plus Gold 650W
- Noctua NF-F12 PWM Cooling Fan

The PC totals to a little less than $1800, which many people are surprised about. Is this an overkill for 1440p gaming? Am I spending way to much on overpriced parts? I need advice for my first build.

Solution
$1800 is not to much to spend on a computer so long as all your other bills are paid of course. The 1080 will work good at 1440p, or even 1440p at greater then 60Hz. The 7700k will do well at keeping up with the Nvidia 1080.

How long do you think I will be able to run this pc before i need to upgrade some parts?

A few years and then you will need to upgrade the graphics card if you want to continue to play new AAA games at 1440p and high settings. The CPU and motherboard should be good for 4-6 years based on the current evolution of CPU capabilities. The power supply should be good for 7-10 years. The hard drive will last 5-15 years, the SSD 5-10 years depending on how much and how often you write to the SSD. The computer case if kept dry should last you until you get sick of it, figure on 10+ years.

I did some budgeting and just saved myself a little less than $300. Do you think I should invest that in games or upgrade my gpu a little?

You're options are right now the NVidia GTX 1080ti and the NVidia GTX Titan X (Pascal) or XP (Pascal). Both are great choices if you want to game at 4k, but you've mentioned 1440p as your target, and so unless you're willing to invest in a decent 4k monitor soon I wouldn't bother. Looking over your build again, I'd like to see you add more hard drive space, a 2TB Western Digital Black is quite a bit more expensive then the 1TB Western Digital Blue 7200 RPM but the 2TB HDD would be somewhat faster and twice the size. Alternatively, you could buy 2, 1TB WD Blue 7200 HDD's.

Which Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, OS, Speakers and/or Headset do you plan to buy (or already own)?

Have you checked http://www.pcpartpicker.com to make sure you're getting the best deal on your selected parts?

I think I'd prefer one clean Amazon bill (unless PCPartPicker has the same thing?).
Here are my peripherals:
- Corsair Gaming K70 LUX Mechanical Keyboard, Backlit Red LED, Cherry MX Brown
- Acer XG270HU omidpx 27-inch WQHD AMD FREESYNC (2560 x 1440) Widescreen Monitor
- SteelSeries QcK Gaming Mouse Pad - Black
- Sennheiser GAME ZERO PC Gaming Headset - Black
- Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB Tunable Gaming Mouse, FPS Mouse

My case has a 3rd slot for another hard drive, so I may simply get one later on and build my gaming library instead.

With all the money I saved, I'm also getting:
- A copy of Battlefield One
- A $100 Steam gift card (for GTA V and either The Witcher 3: Wildhunt or Rainbow Six Siege)

Also on a side note: Do you think I should buy Skyrim at full price, wait for it to go on sale, or just buy The Witcher 3: Wildhunt?
