Hello,

I have a problem with my RX 480 4GB version. I am playing games and often the FPS goes down to 10-15 for around 10-15 seconds. I checked, what can cause the lag. I noticed that when the card is under 100% load and reaches 70°C, the load goes down to 0%, and the card cools itself down to 50-55°C. Is it possible that an older hardware, for example my motherboard or CPU bottlenecks it?

My PC specs:

CPU: AMD A8-3870 3.0GHz
Motherboard: ASRock A55M-DGS
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 2133MHz(Running on 1866MHz)
GPU: MSI RX 480 Gaming X 4G
PSU: Coolermaster B700 Ver.2

Thank you in advance

Yes that cpu is definitely bottlenecking, it is known to bottleneck lower performance GPUs too. Maybe you coukld attempt to OC, but I dont know how that would help

Thank you for your reply! 3.2GHz was the maximum OC which was stable, and unfortunately it doesn't really make a difference. In the future I would like to upgrade to Ryzen 5 1600 with MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard. Do you think 8GB RAM will be enough, or should I go with 16GB?

Personally I have a 1060 and I feel 16gb should be used nowadays. When I play Forza the memory usage is always at 98% and stutters while gta v stutters too because of this. If you can afford 16gn, go for it :)
