Overclocked my i7 2600k but got high temps and been told !Y cooler is only just a bit better than the stock one.

What do people recommend? I will want to overclock up to 5GHz, i read somewhere that water cooler isn't needed for this and air could do it.

Im leaning towards cooler master 212 Evo or a Corsair h80i from what ive heard, are these any good? Don't want to spend too much on it

Solution

The Cryorig H7 will work. Yes, the 212 will work as well. The Cryorig is a bit better. I use the 212 Evo with a 4690K. Keeps it happy.

Ok thanks i have a titan 212 currently which looks very very similar to the cooler master 212 so i was just unsure there'd be much difference.

Would the h80i be overkill for a 2600k ?

I couldn't find the product page for the Titan. Not sure of the performance difference.

No.

The titan is a lot smaller than the 212 but get the cryorig h7 best cooler for the value.

Ok thanks if im going with air then il get the Cryorig H7 (looks like a easy install too) and will this cooler allow me to go up to 5GHz?

4.8 or 4.9? Sure. 5.0? If you're that good and win the silicon lottery. I'd add an extra fan.

Disclaimer Overclocking any chip to a set number is never guaranteed. Just because Susie(your neighbor) is running at 5.1GHz with a H7 and Terry(you're roommate) is getting 5.2GHz with a H115i it does not mean you can hit 5.0GHz. All chips are not created equally. Think of CPUs and GPUs like snowflakes. They are all different.

This here is the perfect answer. My old fx8320 goes to 5.1ghz no problem but almost all others average out at around 4.4-4.5ghz.
