CPU Upgrade Advice

Looking to upgrade my CPU to a AMD FX-8350 but I am not too sure if it will be compatible with my current set-up. Looking to learn whether it is compatible and if I need to buy a new Power Supply.

Note: I have put in a Radeon RX-460 in to this as well

A58 chipset = fm2+ socket

Fx is completely different socket (am3+)

Best for your socket is quad core Athlon 860k or 880k

You have fm2+ not compatible best thing for you to do is get a g4560 + 8gb ddr4 + a cheap b250m board for 3 to 4x the performance of what you have.

If you look on Amazon, (also ebay and others) You will see there are used i5-2400's and others for under $100. You might have to buy a budget cpu cooler if it doesn't come with a cooler. You can Reuse your DDR3 memory to save some cash.

You can also get DDR3 boards for Skylake so you can go with a new i5-6500. There are some ddr3 boards for Haswell too so you can go with a i5-4460.

No other changes needed. It will come with a new cooler (as long as you buy new).

What do you use the pc for? If gaming, what games?

You need to download cpu-z & let us know your motherboard model & BIOS revision.

Your board will very likely need updating to run an 860k or 880k (this can be done while your old CPU is still in there)

Those 2 chips are worthwhile upgrades & will pair well with an RX 460.

I wouldn't spend extra on the 880k , the 860k with silent cooler is just over $55.
That is a bargain buy.

The 880k can play a whole lot of games just fine, but there are a few exceptions and you just named two of them

You will get frequent dips below 30fps in both Arma3 and H1z1 with just about any amd processor, for some reason that engine heavily favours intel.

^ all good then mate , now down to $49.99 - if you don't have prime just sign up for the 30 day trial v& then cancel.

Absolute bargain at that price , its only 200mhz slower than the 880k (which is a nothingness) & can be overclocked to the same speed easily (they're essentially exactly the same chip)

I believe that board supports the 860k on a first revision bios mate , I dont think there's a massive need to update.

Download v8.4 (top one)

Extract & run the exe file , it will update the BIOS from within windows
