So I've been using the modem router my ISP has provided me when I first signed up for DSL internet at home.

I have disabled the Wi-Fi from the modem router as I am using two separate routers around the house through a switch connected to the main modem router.

My question is whether or not it would make sense to switch the modem router to a a new modem as it might improve stability, ping, throughput etc...

Please advise if this will make any difference in any aspect of my internet connection.

By using other devices to provide the wireless you have fixed what most people complain about on ISP provided routers.

All that is left is the NAT function used to share the IP address. Since DSL is fairly slow compared to other technology it is unlikely even a very poor ISP router would not have the CPU power to keep up with internet connection. If you had some high speed fiber connection it would be more concern that the ISP router was not fast enough.

There is not much left that a different router will give you. If you needed some feature like VPN or data filtering or something then a different router might help.

As long as the speed tests give you the numbers your ISP promises when you test connected via ethernet you probably...
