Hi, I have just acquired an old Fujitsu Lifebook P5020 and am looking to restore it for fun. However I have run into a small problem. It came with a Windows XP SP1 CD and every time I finish the setup, the computer reboots to the bluescreen of death.
I thought this must be an issue with the OS so I decided to install Lubuntu on it. I do not intend to buy a usb dvd drive and don't have access to one at the moment. The BIOS of this laptop does not allow me to select removable media as a bootable drive. Is there any way I can emulate an SD card or USB drive as a CD drive? Any other solutions/suggestions are welcome too.

Solution
according to the P5020 BIOS manual on page 15, you need to change the USB Legacy to Enabled for it to recognize the USB port without OS.

and yes you have a big challenge to get a boot USB to run, but if you have a CD-ROM of Ubuntu you should be able to install it.
the blue screen of death should have information as to why it is BSOD on you... could be related to a number of things.

Solution
I prefer live dvd over pendrive not as much hoop jumping to burn the iso to a dvd and have it boot up live review or look it over at desktop then decide to install

thing is don't know if Linux will fit on a cd-rom anymore ?? I guess you need to look at the iso/file size first today there about 1.7gb and a cd -rom is only 700mb

Installation of Linux Mint
You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact
