First off, you want to figure out exactly what you want. There are some migration software, but honestly the best bet is to do a clean install on the SSD, and then add stuff over the SSD from the hard drive. Cloning is exactly what it says. It copies a mirror image to the new drive. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) will be a duplicate. However, it depends on the capacity of the new drive and the old drive.
But why would you want to clone data? Will it operate just as good?
Again, it depends on capacity. Cloning is copying the data. It's an exact image. So you could clone your hard drive, and have it on the SSD. Then throw your old hard drive away, and you will not lose data, because it's been cloned. Cloning helps when you want EVERYTHING. However, like I said, it depends on capacity. If you used 600GB on a 1TB hard drive, and you have a 500GB SSD, then cloning will not help, because it exceeds the capacity.
If you do a fresh install on the SSD, then you can bring over what you want, instead of cloning.
