I am using an HP Compaq LE1711 LCD monitor which is about 17-inchs

It supports upto 1280x1024 resolution and is able to run 1280x720 resolution but the display is stretched and it looks soo wierd.

Is there a way to fix that stretching , I mean a display with top and bottom part black so it might look well .

I asked many experts here and they say that it is not possible and i have to buy a widescreen monitor for that (they most probably want me to buy their monitor and wont answer even if they knew it).

But i think it is possible because one of my friend has windows 10 on 4:3 resolution but when he runs 720p resolution , the display is not stretched and seems pretty good .

Thanks in Advance..

The people you asked are right, 17 inches with a resolution of 1280x1024, your pretty much asking for the monitor to break.

I have this on my computer, once setup right with the colors on the tv setup and then through the gpus control panel.
Its a sweet thing to have, I don't know what your money is like but look into a new monitor/tv.
Also don't forget the right hdmi connectors before you take it home most tvs don't have them in the box.

A little late but find the maintain aspect ratio option under your graphics settings. Once that is enabled just change your resolution like you normally would and it will give you wide screen with the black bars on the top and bottom and scale the way you are asking. I don't even understand how the Best solution by maikutech is even relevant to what you are asking.
