Possible risks of OC gpu?

Hello guys

So I've been looking in to overclocking my gpu, I have a few questions I want answered before I continue though.

What happens if I set my core clock too high, or memory clock too high, is there any risks of them getting damaged in doing so?

I've looked at overclocking with msi afterburner, I see that voltages is not something you can change, does it change "automatically" or is it unchangeable ?

Also, how do i know that i have reached as far as I can get with a OC?

Thank you

or the gpu becomes unstable and when you play you have errros on images, weird colors textures working wird or sudden game crashes

or the gpu makes system restart

the settings on msi are profiles that you must load or ask to msi to apply on boot, otherwise the gpu will work at stock settings, just as if never had a overclock appllied

the limit of the gpu is determined by thermal limits, power limits and stability running games and benchmarks

most people overclock in small proportions, form 20 mhz each time and run unigine heaven or unigine valley

also run a game benchmar or play some minutes, if games play stable, the overclock is stable

keep in mind that overclkcing the gpu makes it work hotter so fans will spin faster and it...

keep in mind that overclkcing the gpu makes it work hotter so fans will spin faster and it will consume more watts from the psu

so the psu must be decent to handle the extra load applied

in genral terms, you can get a increase on frames per second, form 3 to 5, sometimes 10 frames more, but the noise, heat and the expectancy of the gpu could be affected

if the gpu is meant to last 5 years, for example, it could loose a year, or could not loose a thing, there is many case where it overclocks for years and all is well

like a lottery, sometimes you win a little, other times you win alot, or you could end with qa burnt gpu

burnt gpus are not common this days, that is why lots of people overclock their cpus and gpus alot

sometimes is a matter of if you want to do the testing and testing, adjusting and testing again proces that can take some hours or leave it at stock settings and enjoy it for what it is and don't ask for more
