It's better to stick to win10 for 7th gen intel. For one, win10 is fully supported and updated, win7 is end of life and is only getting security updates until 2020 I believe. Meaning if you have a piece of hardware that isn't playing nice with win7, not much luck. Compatibility updates/enhancements are over with for win7.

Kaby lake isn't officially supported with win7, meaning it might work, it might not or it might sort of work. There might be missing components to win7 that could cause errors with kabylake systems and if so not much you can do about it. Newer hardware/drivers are likely to be designed for win10 and may not even be compatible with win7. For instance you may have an audo driver needed for sound chip xyz that's built in...

Cause

This error occurs because new processor generations require the latest Windows version for support. For example, Windows 10 is the only Windows version that is supported on the following processor generations:

you may get it to install and maybe boot to desktop but after that don't get your hopes up better stick with that malware called win -10 as your cloud based service

I dont care about updates. I have them turned off on my laptop.

Well explain it to me. Dont be rude and just blow me off like that. If its not completely compatible, tell me why. I dont want to mess up a brand new computer.

Hardware and software are moving forward, win10's been out for around 2yrs now. Just like you might find hardware that only has win7/8.1/10 drivers, no win98 or xp. As they stopped supporting those old os versions it's happening again. Similar to trying to run various older programs on win7 using compatibility mode, does it work? Eh, sometimes, sometimes not or not so great anyway and older programs can still glitch lacking full support.

Things that are becoming standard on newer hardware like usb3.0 and nvme on both kaby and ryzen systems aren't natively supported with win7, it could make installs difficult. Win7 just doesn't have the support for it and MS is looking to fully block both ryzen and kaby lake from gaining access to updates. Not just win7 but win8/8.1 as well which hasn't fully reached extended support phase.

Long story short while you may be more familiar with win7, if you're going with newer hardware your best chance of success and avoiding headaches is to use win10. They're making it that way on purpose to drive people along with current software to match current hardware. You can try using win7 but it's liable to be a pain.
