i'm wondering if i put a gtx 1050 ti in an alienware x51 r2 to replace my gtx 645 would i really need to upgrade the power adaptor for my rig.the gtx 645 has a maxium graphics card power (w) of 130w mimium system power requirement (w) 450w while the 1050 ti has a maxium graphics card power (w) of 75 w minium system power requirement (w) of 300w. i have the 240w power adaptor for the x51 r2 i'd really like to upgrade to the 1050 ti main thing im wondering is if the 240w adaptor will power the 1050 till i get the 330w max for my rig.

sorry if it looks jumbled posting this from my phone as toms hadrware wont load properly on my pc

The 1050 Ti will draw less power. Not sure how much since Nivida lists the 645 as 130watts. Crazy to think it draws that much power. I don't think its possible either without a 6pin PEG connector. Some 1050 Ti cards don't have them which means it will draw 75watts or less.

hence posting this question here lol. its confusing to think a newer mid - high end card would draw less power then an older mid end card. i'm just hoping that this 240w cord for my x51 will run the 1050 ti till i get the funds to buy the new cord. from compairing the two on Nvidia's site it would seem the 240w would be enough to run the 1050 ti as a temp till i can get the new one. i'm concerned about damaging my rig as the x51 for all its flaws is and always will be a very nice compact rig.

You should be fine. I want to also add that the main thing that should concern you isn't the power draw but whether the card that you are planning on buying fits inside your case or not. Some graphic cards may be too big to fit inside that case. Having said that most of the 1050ti cards usually aren't too big but better be careful than sorry. Good luck.

i took some mesuerments in side my case the 1050 ti will fit as long as i remove the 3.5in 1tb hdd thats in there i have a 2.5in 500gb hdd i can place over the dvdrw housing just need to pick up a small cable extension for that easy. i'll lose 500gb but a 2.5in 1tb hdd at best buy in my area is pretty cheap
