Combining almost identical sticks?

Hi all,

Time to give myself a ram upgrade after 9 years.

I am currently running 6gb (3x2gb) OCZ Gold series in triple channel
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 8-8-8-24
Cas Latency 8
Voltage 1.65V
(https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227365)

Sadly, they have long been discontinued, but I managed to find an affordable used set of
6gb (3x2gb) OCZ Platinum series
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 7-7-7-24
Cas Latency 7
Voltage 1.65V
(https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381)

Now, I know you're not supposed to mix memory kits but these look basically identical to me (and are both triple channel, which is what I'd be using as my mobo has 6 slots, for two sets of triple channel) except for the lower latency of the Platinum sticks. Will I be alright to combine them with my Gold sticks if I set the latency to 8 for all of them?

That would give me 12gb DDR3 1600 ram at a cas latency of 8, which would set up me up for the next while, assuming it works.

Thanks!

Solution
The modules might work together OK, but that is dependent on the modules characteristics being identical.

If the memory settings in BIOS are all set to AUTO, then the system should (hopefully) run all the memory at the lower common memory timings of 8-8-8-24. Changing the settings manually should only be done if the BIOS fails to run the memory automatically.
