I use Frontier. I have no choice as they have a monopoly on my little neighborhood out in the middle of nowhere. When I am gaming (this happens other time too but to a lesser extent) my ping spikes up to anywhere from 1500-4000 for a full second or more. This is inconsistent, some days it doesnt happen at all, some days it happens all the time, some days it only happens at night etc.

I am almost certain it has something to do with wireless priority. I know for a FACT this only happens when someone is downloading or streaming something like Netflix, YouTube or Spotify.

On my previous router, it came out of box with Ethernet at the top of the priority list, except I could download a game in steam, still have decent ping in Counter Strike, and someone else would have no problem. This new router, it makes it faster for everyone, but EVEN FASTER for the wireless users, and if they are using wireless basically at all I can't game.

I'm gonna paste what the in game console spits out during these lag spikes later in case i'm overlooking something. But is there a way to prioritize Ethernet over wireless? I think I'm going to buy a new Ethernet cord too, in order to absolutely rule out hardware. I took all my stuff to a lan with some friends so I know my pc is good, and if the modem itself is bad i can just warranty that.

Thanks -Jerry

Solution
Newer wifi routers try maximise wireless bandwidth in ways old ones did not.
What you can try do is limit the wifi speed.
On my router, in wireless settings, I have a dropdown for speed. I set this to 150Mbps instead of 300, which helps.
