I upgraded my gpu yesterday so I could play 10bit 4k hdr 10bit hevc files. I had read the Rx460 was a good budget option. However it seems to have made no difference, all 4k video grinds to a halt. I tried vlc with hardware acceleration enabled and also kodi with gpu acceleration enabled to no avail.

I have an i5 3570k, 8gb ddr3, pci express 3.0, running windows 10 with the latest gpu drivers installed.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks ran some scans which removed some malware , the cpu rarely goes above 40c.

I installed the k lite kodec pack and media player classic, this plays the files much better. However cpu usage of the player is still too high at around 70-80%.

Vlc and 5kplayer still stutter badly.

I'd have to close virtually everything to play a movie flawlessly which is unacceptable to me. It seems my cpu is a bottleneck I wonder why the gpu is not taking more strain?

Any more suggestions?

I'm tempted to see if a gtx 1050 would do a better job...Maybe new cpu and mboard are needed
